2022

The road you came in on.

Self portrait.
Completed: April 2020 to November 2022.

Measures: 12 x 12 inches.

Materials: graphite, paper, string on canvas layer in silver frame

This piece is a depiction of the gender-bending bodhisattva of compassion Guanyin / Kannon / Avalokiteśvara, combined with the red thread of fate. I made it as a simple reminder to make the most of one's path, say yes to adventures, but to be compassionate to oneself when things go awry.

This piece actually had a few prior incarnations, which I include below.

The title is also a reference to a cherished Baltimore saloon, The Horse you Came in On, and Edgar Allan Poe's fate there.
